Casting off at Sunset

There is a different rhythm to life at Sunset. It’s not just in the way the light plays with the water, or how the red-orange shift in light brings out the colour that is normally drained by the ocean’s depths. It is, that all life below the waves knows that darkness approaches and there is a rush hour of fish heading to their favourite sleeping den or hiding place. It’s that almost every creature is out and moving around for a little less than an hour or so, so the reef then has a chance to actually show how vibrant and teeming its fishy population actually is with variety and almost every splash of colour in existence on scales and fins and tentacles or shells. This pic, serves as an excellent example. On one of our first sunset snorkels after opening back up I took the time to jump in at Caye Caulker Marine Reserve and got up close an personal with Belize’s underwater rush hour before dark.
